Question: what type of bugs are in our bodys???

Keywords: , ,

  1. For every one cell in our body, scientists believe that there are 10 bugs! We contain all types of bugs, mostly bacteria but also some yeast. There are good bugs and bad bugs. We need some to protect us from infection by the nasty ones (Lactobacillus), we need some to help us break down our food to release important things like vitamin K (Escherichia coli). Our bodies are full of bugs that like to live in warm places (our mouths), salty places (our skin) and places with high acid levels (digestive tract). Thins only get bd when the wrong bug decides to live in the wrong place!

  3. The collective name for all of the bugs found in our body is the ‘microbiome’. The majority of the bugs that live in us can be found in the gut, nose and mouth, skin and reproductive system. The microbiome in your body can change depending on if you become unwell, and monitoring the microbiome could become a new way of diagnosing diseases.

  4. There are many, many bugs in our body, and as Renee answered these are known as our microbiome. It is only really starting to become apparent the effect our lifestyle has on our microbiome, and the sorts of things that alter what bugs live in us, and why some of the nasty bugs can either take hold or end up overpopulating the microbiome and causing disease. However, if you removed all the bugs from your body, you probably wouldn’t survive or be healthy for long – many (like Elise explained) are needed in our gut and on our skin for us to stay healthy!

  5. Not programming bugs, I hope! I guess you could have a pacemaker with a bad program which would not be good. I will assume that you are actually talking about bugs as living organisms and leave it to the other scientists to answer this question.

  1. This was just published by Scientific American: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=microbiome-graphic-explore-human-microbiome
It is an interactive way to explore the human microbiome with lots of information about the types of bugs in our bodies and where they live!
