  2. When I was very young – I remember when I was six, I was desperate to become a paleontologist! I grew up in rural Queensland, there was always something to explore, my Dad was always explaining things to me, and I loved reading about all sorts of things;I think my interest in science began there. I became a member of the CSIRO double helix science club and this just spurred on my interest in science. When it came to high school I studied both biology and physcis, but when I applied for university I wasn’t sure whether I wnated to study law or science more. I was accepted into law, studied one semester then changed back to science and I never looked back!

  3. For me it was largely curiosity. I was very interested in how the body functioned. My passion for microbiology did not come until I was enrolled in a science degree at university. I had a really great lecturer who taught microbiology in first year (and also advanced units in second and third year, which of course I enrolled in!!), after attending his lectures I just knew I wanted a job playing with bugs! (bacteria and not the creepy crawleys like spiders!)

  4. I did not set out to be a computer scientist. Here is how I ended up becoming a university professor and computer games researcher.

what first inspired you to become a scientist?

  5. My interest in science started with Mars bars! My uncle was a physics teacher and when I was a kid he used to give fun science problems and riddles to me and my cousins. If we could figure them out, he would give us a Mars bar. This is what started my interest and it wasn’t long before I realised that science was a lot of fun even when there wasn’t chocolate at the end 🙂
