Question: what's the most exciting thing about working with DNA?

Keywords: , ,

  1. I am excited by the fact that even though we know the full human DNA sequence (the human genome) we are uncovering so much every single day about how DNA works and why we are how we are due to this incredible molecule. There is still a lot to be learnt from DNA – right from understanding our evolutionary history and why people differ to one another to how DNA mutations result in disease. Then there is the challenge of analysing DNA – how to make DNA analysis cheaper, quicker and faster – there are currently some massive technological developments going on that are enabling big revolutions in studying DNA and this is really exciting!

Another really amazing and exciting thing for me about DNA is fact that DNA consists of only four bases (nucleotides) – Adenine (A), Guanine (G), Cytosine (C) and Thymine (T) but yet, this four letter code in various combinations, give rise to every cell in our bodies, and other sequences of these four bases give rise to every single living thing on the planet.

Basically, studying DNA is a very exciting thing!
