In the current casing? No. It is only rated for 20 to 40 meters of water depending on what casing we use. To make one that could be placed on something that dove to that depth (+5000m) you’d have to spend some serious money. Plus there is no light down there so we’d have to add that as well, strong lights. And the camera would have to be one able to handle the extreme cold, consumer grade digital cameras do not work well in extreme cold. A POTBot costs around $150.00 for us to make. To make something that we could strap to ALVIN (see link 1) below) we are talking 10s if not 100s of thousands of dollars. Not only for the gear but also for all the safety testing that would need to be done to ensure ALVIN and crew would be safe.
